CNTA host three gorges promotional event |
The China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) hosted a seminar and dinner presentation attended by select travel professionals at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in Vancouver last night. |

The purpose of the event was to familiarize local agents with China’s Three Gorges destination.
Wang Yan, deputy director general, China National Tourism Administration Wang Yan, deputy director general, marketing & international cooperation department, China National Tourism Administration, welcomed local travel industry representatives, supplier partners, and delegates from the Consul General of China in Vancouver.
“Tonight we would like to introduce you to of of our most famous travel itineraries," Yan said. "Three Gorges is the longest river in China, and is now attracting more and more visitors from all over the world."
She said tourists can experience the “magnificent beauty” of the Three Gorges via river cruise.
“Canada has always been one of our most important long-haul markets to China. We fully understand that we couldn’t make any achievements without your support, and we are always grateful for your continuous efforts in promoting China as a tourist destination,” she added.
Lui Fei, consul general of China, Vancouver Lui Fei, China’s consul general in Vancouver with ambassador rank, was also on hand at the event.
“It’s very special to introduce Three Gorges; the ‘Grand Canyon’ of the Yangtze River," she said. "It is known as one of China’s top ten scenic spots; magnificent rivers, towering mountains and natural attractions.”
Fei added that the destination has a rich cultural landscape, with treasures dating back over 3,000 years.
“It is the cradle of the Chinese civilization. The Yangtze River delta now generates as much as 30 per cent of the national GDP in China,” she said.
Air China, China Eastern and China Southern flies to the destination from Western Canada.
Supplier presentations included speeches from representatives from local cruise operators offering Yangtze River cruises.
Mavis Lau, sales & marketing manager, Silkway Travel President Cruises has more than 30 years of experience in river cruising, and is in the process of adding two more ships to its fleet.
Chiangjiang Cruises offers 13 cruise itineraries on an ambassador fleet that includes onboard movie theatres, Tai Chi classes and up to 400 passenger capacity.
Mavis Lau, sales and marketing manager, Silkway Travel and Cruise, also gave a presentation after taking a FAM to the Three Gorges destination.
Lau discussed the improvements made to the channels, including new housing developments.
“For me, Three Gorges is a very romantic [destination], with very high peaks and very deep canyons and the best sunsets from the cruise boats,” she said.
